At 1 pm I rode out with my 3 friends, See [sic] Mohamed ben Abdelmalek & 4 of his cavaliers, with Isaac Pinto this afternoon. I did not however take any direct observations & as usual asked my few questions having my intelligent & attentive companion to be on the alert for these purposes as more prudent after the various hints I had received on the subject. So that I have no note of the observations that occurred to us as I forget the precise direction in which we rode. Smith picked up a large agate which he gave me as short time after I had pointed out to him at my horse's feet a pretty but small carnelian which he took up.

{322} About 5 a copious shower - but fair when I visited my cattle at 6½.

Sent off to Hadge Taleb Gelool the present mentioned p. 319 which was graciously received

Delivered Abensur 20 doubloons = 320 dollars

This morning before breakfast Seedy Mohamed brought me from the Minister Ben Dris a handful of native amethysts from the Atlas Mountains for inspection - he gave me 3 as specimens but all except one of these had been sadly injured in rude carriage so as to break or obliterate the fine angles of their crystallization.

I learn that the Messrs Schousboe who were to have had their audience at 9 this morning have received an intimation that they must wait at their residence for further instructions regarding it. It was however only deferred for an hour when they had as I understand a very courteous reception.
