Occupied all the morning in preparing Letters for Tangier, Gibraltar & England. About noon informed the Minister Ben Dris was ready to reply to me upon the subjects of our conference on the 20th instant when I replied I was ready at this moment or as soon as agreeable to His Excellency.

Being much recovered I rose this morning as soon as I awoke about 6½ & proceeded with my letters. Sent off very long despatches of date 20th Instant & of this day to Mons. Chaillet at Mogadore. Proceeded with my letters for Tangier & England.
1½ pm Read the principal parts of the
Church Service for the day. Present Mr Frederick

Confined all day writing letters public & private - until about 5 pm* I went with Seedy Mohamed & Abensur by appointment made by myself to visit Hadj Talib Ben Gelool - with whom I passed about 1½ hour very pleasantly - not one word on politics did he venture to utter & Seedy Mohamed ben Abdelmalek never lowered the hood from over his turban as in approaching & sitting with, making tea for & serving most obsequiously the Seedy Mohamed ben Dris.
For some note of the subjects of the conversation see my Letter to Mr Schousboe of 27 inst.
In my way to the Hadj Taleb I met a man bearing for me from the Sultan a present of 6 fine citrons with 3 for the Messrs Schousboe - I found afterward that my Danish friends had among their three one the largest of the nine. They also gave 2 dollars to the bringer & I directed Abensur on Wednesday the 30th to give the man the same for myself.(35)
