PETENSHIRL AT WILSON'S PROM 2007

Some of the terrestrial orchids that we saw

We had a little trouble identifying some of these as taxonomists have been having a busy time of late. We did as best we could using Backhouse & Jeanes' "Orchids of Victoria"

Slaty Helmet Orchid - Vereker Outlook Track
Nodding Greenhood - one of the few orchids that survive in Box Hill (at Wattle Park). This one was just off the Five Mile Beach track
Veined Helmet Orchid. These could be found in many locations. This one was on the Tiongue Point Track
Fringed Helmet Orchid on the Millers Landing Track
Striped Greenhood. This was quite widely spread but this photo was taken at the junction of the Squeaky Beach and Tidal Overlook paths
And another Striped Greenhood, this time from the Tongue Point Track
This could be either a Mayfly or Mosquito orchid. Our attempts to photograph Mayflies in full bloom were unsuccessful because the camera refused to manually focus properly.
This is a bit of a mystery. It could be a Tall Greenhood or it could be Tunstall's Greenhood or even the Green Striped Greenhood. All seem to be closely related.
Mosquito Orchid from the Vereker Outlook Track
The Pelicans or Small Helmet Orchid from, I think, Vereker Track
