PETENSHIRL AT WILSON'S PROM 2007

We spent the last week of June and the first week of July 2007 at the Prom. It was the wettest it's ever been, so we were quite surprised when we did the final tally, to find that we'd seen so much good stuff: whales, 62 species of birds (including a few that we'd never identified before), a koala (first we've seen in around 25 years), fairy penguins, many different orchids and... oh, did I mention whales?

Before setting out, we attended a concert by the Battlefield Band at the Whitehorse Performing Arts Centre. Great gig! Trouble is, we kept humming along to that Rabbie Burns "To a Mouse" poem that Alan Reid set to music... timorous beestie!... for the whole fortnight.

Anyway we started out at the Fishie Pub, formerly known as the "Promontory Gate", for lunch - scene of many a "ham steak and pineapple" gourmet delight:

That fish has been horizontal for at least 20 years

Anyway to continue on, click any of the links below. First a warning: If you're expecting high-quality photography, go away and do something else. We bought the cheapest digital camera in the Nikon Coolpix range and it certainly has its limitations - even after you read the manual! We mainly bought the camera for taking snaps of Veronika and it works fine for that purpose. For fine quality macro shots, it's a bit ordinary (perhaps the operator was a bit ordinary too!)
