Music

Music constitutes a rather major portion of my life, encompassing the areas of performance, listening to recordings and computers.

I've been playing some sort of keyboard instrument since ~1969, when I learnt to play the electronic organ. Since that time, I've moved into playing (and building) synthesizers and using MIDI for most of my music production, as well as creating my own software to manipulate the data created by the various musical instruments I own.

All through this, my tastes in music have diversified a good deal, leading to my interests in various aspects and styles of music. So, these days, my listening revolves around soundtracks, classical music, world music, electronic music, 'new age' music and most any of the classic rock and pop styles.

I have a few musical instruments in storage at the moment... but I'm currently using a Yamaha DX7 as a synthesizer and keyboard controller, plugged into a SCC-1 Sound Canvas sound card in my PC. I also have a Roland PMA-5 plugged into the Sound Blaster card, thereby giving me a total of 32 independent MIDI channels with which to make my music. One day, I'll get motivated and create some decent music myself and I'll post some samples on this page. For examples of the sort of things I aspire to, download some great music from the Sound Canvas Users Group .

My current projects include learning more about the Sound Canvas and trying to learn some composition techniques.
