>>AdvocacyThe role of advocacy is to assist people, individually or as a group, to achieve justice by:
Individual AdvocacyAs a member & agency of Disability Rights Victoria, we are funded by the Department of Human Services to provide individual advocacy to adults with disabilities across greater Metropolitan Melbourne including the Mornington Peninsula. We provide individual advocacy to adults with physical, sensory, intellectual, psychiatric, neurological and multiple disabilities. The disability may be obvious or hidden. Our service is free of charge and available to adults with disabilities. We help adults with disabilities understand the choices available to them, to make their own decisions, & we support them to speak up for themselves. We make representations on behalf of people with disabilities to service providers, government & non-government organisations as the issue requires. All clients who have a file opened on their behalf by the DRC will be provided with the DRC's Privacy Statement as soon as it is practicable. In addition, the DRC's Privacy Policy will be available to all clients on request. An evaluation form is issued to all clients upon completion of the advocacy work on their behalf. The form will ask about the adequacy of the work undertaken for them. Following this an invitation to join the DRC is posted to the client, together with a membership form. The DRC has a complaints procedure which can be referred to if any client should have a complaint against the DRC.
