General Editing Tutorial:
Making Lattice

In this tutorial we will make the lattice that appears in the palace levels of Prince of Persia. This Tutorial assumes that RoomShaker is setup correctly on your system and that you have basic knowlege on placing tiles and modifiers and moving rooms within a level.

Firstly, load RoomShaker and open level 4. Next, we want to clear the rest of the level and only focus on 2 rooms for this tutorial so select from the menu “Tools”->“Send Level To Buffer”.

Now drag room 1 from the buffer down onto the main grid as shown.

Room 1 is the room containing the player starting position, it is indicated by a blue room number.

Now, we want a lattice that spans more than one room so drag room 3 onto the grid and place it directly to the right of room 1.

We're now ready to start building the lattice in these two rooms. Using the room editor, remove everything from rooms 1 & 3 exept the bottom row of “Wall” tiles. Your level sould now look like this:

In the room editor, place 4 “Lattice Pillar” tiles with “Floor” tiles in between as shown in room 1 and place three “Lattice Pillar” tiles with “Floor” tiles in between as shown in room 3. Place a gate in tile 12 of room 1 and a gate in tile 19 of room 3, these will be at the ends of the lattice.

The level will now look like this:

Now for the actual lattice, start by placing “Tapestry Top” tiles directly above the gates. The Tapestry Top tile in room 3 will have a peice of lattice attached to it however this lattice is designed to connect onto a lattice to the right of the tapestry top. At this point, save your level and play level 4 of Prince of Persia, run into room 3.

Notice that there is a peice of lattice sticking out of the right side of the tapestry top tile in room 3?
To remove this peice of lattice from the tapestry top tile, set its modifier to 2: Normal.

Next we want to set the lattice to the pillars, this is done by placing “Lattice Supports” above the lattice pillars. In rooms 1 & 3 place “Lattice Support” tiles above each pillar as shown in the following images.

OK we're nearly finished, all that is left is to connect the lattice supports together with the actual lattice.
Lets start with room 1.
Place in tiles 5 & 10 “Lattice Left Half”.
Place in tile 6 “Lattice Right Half”.
Place in tile 8 “Small Lattice ”.

Now to room 3.
Place in tiles 3 & 6 “Lattice Left Half”.
Place in tiles 1 & 7 “Lattice Right Half”.

Your level should now look like this:

Thats all there is to it, you now have a complete lattice, save and load your level and try out your new lattice.  :)
